Competition

Is Competition a Good Fit for Your Dancer?

Consider the following questions to help decide if competition dance is the right path:

  • Is your dancer excited to come to class each week?

  • Do they practice at home—whether it’s skills or routines?

  • Do they love to perform?

  • Can they accept feedback and use it to improve?

  • Did they appear confident on stage at recital?

    • (Looking out at the audience, not relying on others to follow)

    • (Using facial expressions or smiling while performing)

If you answered yes to most of these questions, competition may be a great next step!

Important Things to Keep in Mind

  • Time & Financial Commitment:
Competitive dance requires both. If dance is not a top priority for your dancer or your family at this time, we recommend continuing with our recreational dance classes instead.

  • Registration & Fees:
We register for competitions in August. Please note that competitions do not offer refunds. If you drop from the team after August 1st, you will still be responsible for all competition fees. Costume fees are non-refundable once ordered, which typically happens in September or October.

  • Choreography Timeline:
Competition dances are choreographed during the summer and will be ready to go on the first day of class in the fall.

  • Class Expectations:

    • Dancers will receive more individualized and constructive feedback to help them grow.

    • Practice outside of class is expected.

    • Dancers should come to class focused and ready to work hard.

    • Attendance must be consistent—not just in competition rehearsals, but in all classes they are enrolled in.

  • Team Culture:
Our competition dancers are expected to be leaders in the studio.

    • They set the tone with their attitude, effort, and behavior.

    • We are a team—what one dancer does impacts everyone.

    • We celebrate each other’s successes and support one another.

    • Tearing others down is never acceptable. We lift each other up, always.
